Standard And Poor’s Lowers Outlook On U.S. Debt

On April 21, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

Standard & Poor’s Ratings Service downgraded its outlook Monday on the United States’ sovereign debt, expressing unprecedented doubts over the ability of Washington to bring the massive federal budget deficits under control in the next three years. Stock markets fell on the warning.

The agency lowered the long-term outlook to “Negative” from “Stable,” saying there is a one in three chance it will downgrade the rating on the debt in the next two years.

S&P reaffirmed its investment-grade credit ratings on the U.S. long- and short-term debt itself. But it said the ratings are at risk from the country’s growing deficit.

“While it has been widely recognized that the U.S. credit rating may have been at some risk of a downgrade for years, S&P’s action still comes as a major wake-up call for policymakers, and investors,” said Douglas Porter, deputy chief economist at BMO Capital Markets. “This may well prompt more forceful action on the deficit in the next two years, which in turn will act as a more forceful drag on the economic recovery.”

S&P has little confidence that the White House and Congress will agree on a deficit-reduction plan before the fall 2012 elections, the agency said. By that time, the measures won’t go into effect until the fiscal year 2014.

The government is on pace to run a record $1.5 trillion deficit this year, the third consecutive deficit exceeding $1 trillion. President Obama and congressional Republicans are sparring over how to reduce the nation’s red ink. Their differences over where to cut have put a crucial decision over raising the nation’s debt limit in jeopardy.

“We see the path to agreement as challenging because the gap between the parties remains wide,” said Standard & Poor’s credit analyst Nikola G. Swann.

Stocks plunged after the rating agency lowered its outlook The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 200 points in morning trading.

S&P said the U.S. has a high-income, diversified and flexible economy that has helped it to encourage growth while containing inflation.

But the country’s ballooning deficit could offset those positives over the next two years.

The agency noted that the deficit grew to 11 per cent of gross domestic income in 2009. That is much higher than the average of two per cent to five per cent in the previous six years.

Mary Miller, the assistant Treasury secretary for financial markets, said S&P “underestimates the ability of America’s leaders to come together to address the difficult fiscal challenges facing the nation.”

The president and Congress are working on ways to reduce budget deficits over the long term, she said.

The fight over the deficit and next year’s budget is threatening the government’s ability to borrow. Analysts say S&P is warning the two parties not to play politics with the debt ceiling.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Sunday that Republican leaders have privately assured the Obama administration that Congress will raise the government’s borrowing limit in time to avoid an unprecedented default on the nation’s debt.

But a top Republican quickly pushed back and said there was no guarantee the Republicans would agree to increase the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling without further controls on federal spending.

Geithner has said that the government will hit its current limit no later than May 16. But Geithner said it will be able to avoid an unprecedented default on the national debt through various accounting maneuvers for possibly another two months.

Forget The Get Rich Quick Schemes | Business Networking University

On April 21, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

Why do we always expect to take the short-cut to success even though we know that it rarely works that way? There are no magic pills.

We want to eat whatever we want and still lose weight. Have you or someone you know been lured into the Atkins diet, the celebrity diet or the ?eat all the peanut butter and ice cream you can while standing on your head? diet.

The fact is that we all know that the way to lose weight is to burn more calories than we consume. That means eating healthy meals and exercising; period. Doesn?t everyone on the planet know this by now?

Yet, how many people try one diet after another in vain. I don?t think I?ve ever seen an interview with an obese person who didn?t say, ?I?ve tried countless diets and they didn?t work.? Sure, they recount how they lost an initial 20, 30, or 50 pounds on this diet or that diet. But, then they always gain it all back and then some.

I was recently hanging out at my favorite coffee shop. The store manager was lamenting that he had to go to a presentation for some internet buying program that a former employee invited him to. It turned out to be a pyramid-type, multi-level marketing program.

You know the kind. You bring in your friends and family and they bring in theirs and before you know it, everyone is RICH. If only it was so easy.

I have a student in a sales class now that wants to be in sales, because he knows that he can have an unlimited income. Yet, he?s not willing to do the work to make it. He only wants it if it?s easy. My prediction is that he won?t make it, unless he makes some drastic changes.

It doesn?t matter whether we?re talking about diets, multi-level marketing, or your sales career; short-cuts don?t work. Nothing replaces hard work.

Our society, as a whole, has become undisciplined. I heard on the news the other day that Americans, on average, are 25 pounds heavier today than they were 40 years ago. That?s a lot of burgers and fries and not much shaking going on.

Discipline is doing what you need to do, even when you don?t feel like doing it. It?s realizing that those things worth having are worth working for. It?s putting your nose to the grindstone and not letting life?s unproductive distractions sidetrack your dreams and aspirations.

The choices are simple when you think about them. The consequences are life-changing. Anyone for a donut?

Kate Middleton Gets Her Own Family Coat Of Arms

Kate Middleton Gets Her Own Family Coat Of Arms

Just In Time for Her Royal Wedding

The Middleton family Coat of Arms has been unveiled in London this week ahead of Kate?s upcoming royal nuptials to Prince William of Wales. Altho Wills got his own Coat of Arms at birth (it has a unicorn on it!!!), the Middleton family did not procure their own Coat of Arms until it became necessary ? seeing that Kate is about to marry into the royal family. Check out Kate?s new family Coat of Arms and see what the official program for the Royal Wedding will look like below.

Kate Middleton today joined the ranks of nobility as her very own coat of arms was unveiled? and that could prove profitable for the family business. The growing social status of the bride-to-be?s parents has been reflected in the new insignia which will feature on the Royal Wedding souvenir programme. In a canny move by her father, Michael Middleton, Kate?s family will all be able to use the crest ?as he sees fit? including for their Party Pieces business as it was he who commissioned it. The design released today incorporates an acorn sprig ? one for each of the Middletons? three children ? an idea suggested by Kate. The oak tree is a traditional symbol of England and strength, and is a feature of west Berkshire where the family have lived for more than 30 years. At the centre of the coat of arms is an inverted ?v? or chevron coloured gold which represents Kate?s mother Carole Middleton whose maiden name was Goldsmith. Above and below this feature are white chevronels to symbolise peaks and mountains, reflecting the family?s love of the Lake District and skiing. But there are no references to the ancestors of the Middletons, made millionaires by their successful mail order business Party Pieces. The forebears of Michael, an ex-flight dispatcher, feature successful Leeds solicitors, while his wife, a former air hostess, is descended from a long line of labourers, carpenters and Durham coal miners. The design can be used by the Middletons howsoever they wish and if someone else uses it they can sue them at the Court of Chivalry which, apart from a case in 1954, hasn?t been convened since 1732. Thomas Woodcock, Garter Principal King of Arms, from the College of Arms in the City of London, sat down with Kate?s parents to create the design which cost ?4,400. He said: ?It?s not compulsory but as their daughter is marrying into the Royal Family she will have a need probably to use a coat of arms.? He added that Miss Middleton could have been granted her own heraldic design but her father commissioned the College in his name so all the family could use it. Mr Woodcock added: ?The Middleton family particularly wanted acorns or oak and I think Catherine Middleton in particular was responsible for the idea of these oak sprigs. The idea is that great trees grow from small acorns and the part of Berkshire in which the Middletons brought up their children there are a great many oak trees so it?s something they associate with the upbringing of their children. And in the centre you have what is known as a chevron and that has been made gold as Catherine Middleton?s mother?s maiden name was Goldsmith ? so that?s a suitable reference to her in the centre of the family.? A version of the coat and arms which can only be used by Kate or her sister Pippa, as it denotes a Middleton spinster, will be printed on the back of the souvenir programme while William?s will be on the front. The booklet will include the wedding order of service and be available on the day of the nuptials.

Oooooh, everything is getting all official. I have to say, altho we don?t use this Coat of Arms business here in the US, there is something romantic and intriguing about the whole concept. This is the sort of stuff we read about in fairytales and, yet, it actually exists in real life. Despite the fact that there are many naysayers who claim to be totally uninterested in the upcoming Royal Wedding, I can?t help but be excited about the whole thing. It really does feel like a fairytale come to life.

5 things to avoid when natural disinfectant

On April 20, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

This article is a natural cleaning with disinfectants. However, it is not saying how or what to do. Instead, offers five tips to avoid things if you want a natural disinfectant to clean with. If you also use some of the products purchased do business in your routine cleaning, they also give tips when using them.

Here are five concepts to avoid:

Homemade products mixed with detergents for professional use
The mainwhy should not you do it does if vapors are beginning a dangerous chemical reaction, releasing toxic, just as you mixed bleach and ammonia when cleaning. Unfortunately, not I know what’s really in cleaning it buys from the store because they only rarely if ever they release the complete list of ingredients for consumers. effective not only that, but mixing the two products are not really washing. It is a best choice to only attackType of product, preferably natural, home-made one.

Leaving all the products in unlabeled containers
This is due to get confused about which product in the container can then use a wrong basis. Instead, you can simply permanent marker with a cleaning agent. In this way, you can easily tag your products, as you do.

Food storage containers for cleaning products
It isCross-contamination between foods and your cleaner. And just because a product is natural does not mean it is edible, it could be negative consequences if your detergent mixed with food. So you really should look to separate containers that are clearly not nominate for the food and cleaning products, and vice versa.

Keep the products away from children and pets
You do not want to be a good cleaner smell of something good tradeto eat or drink. So you can keep it better to store all cleaning agents: in a locked cabinet or on a high shelf, where it is not from those who use them should not be achieved.

Non-Spot Test the product before using it on surfaces
In the short term this may be a temptation, but eventually you may end up with damage to the furniture or if you want to respond, not even with the ingredients in your vacuum cleaner. Clean marble with vinegar is aexcellent example, as the acid in vinegar damage the marble. Instead, use baking soda and water. Remember that prevention is better than cure when you try out a new product if it homemade or purchased.

Why Vinyl Isn’t Really Coming Back

On April 20, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

I spent the 1970s working in record stores as a clerk, a manager and a buyer of those weird, hard-to-get imports like Nick Drake. I also ran a record warehouse.

I had a personal collection of about 2,000 albums, but sold many of them so I could eat and pay rent in my early days as a musician. I still have about 1,000 choice albums, and I’m sure I’ll die with my vinyl. But it’ll never be as important to my music collection as it was 30 years ago. There’s been a resurgence in vinyl sales, with some insisting that the classic format is coming back. And, while it is rising from the dead ? though this post on our news blog The Record puts that notion in context ? I think it’ll always remain in a coma. Here’s why:

?

Sound Quality: Despite the romance and love for that warm “vinyl sound,” it has so many imperfections. Vinyl’s biggest downside in practical, everyday use is the quality of sound. Without going into the physics of it all, the inside tracks of a vinyl record often didn’t sound the same as the opening tracks. It has to do with the tracking force of the tone arm and its tendency to push toward the inner grooves or pull toward the outer grooves of a record as the needle makes its way from the beginning of the record to the end. Sure, you could adjust the anti-skating on a turntable, but really, it was a subtle, shifting art.

Straight-armed turntables don’t have this issue. They’re also less common and more expensive, and then there’s dust, the mortal enemy of albums. The static of vinyl attracts dust. Sure, there’s a dust cover; and sure, you’d blow the dust off the needle each time you put on a record; and sure, you could and should clean your records every time you play them ? imagine cleaning your music every time you wanted to listen to it these days ? but what a pain. You can romanticize it, but honestly, I don’t miss it.

Limited Lifespan: I don’t care how much I tried to take care of my records; needles wore out. Worn needles cause permanent damage to a record. If I played it on a friend’s less-than-perfect turntable, it could damage the record. There’s also the inevitable bumping of the tone arm. Dancing could make the floor shake, which made the needle skip and sometimes permanently scratched a favorite record. “I’ve Just Seen a Face” from The Beatles still has a permanent skip on the vinyl in my memory.

Portability: I have wonderful memories of carrying armfuls of records wherever I went. Twenty albums was a good stack to take to a friend’s house. And, though they weighed a lot, it was worth carrying that beautiful art. It was wonderful to hold an album in your hands and sit on the floor with friends obsessing over the liner notes, lyrics, pictures and so on. I do miss that. I hope I see the day when big, digital album art is standard. Nostalgia aside, it pales in comparison to being able to carry 10,000 songs in my pocket. It beats the 25 cassette mix tapes I used to have in my car. I did have a portable turntable in my car for a short while, but whenever I made a turn, gravity slowed down the album. Ah, physics again.

So, while I love the vinyl album ? and while I love this current resurgence ? it feels more like souvenir collecting than a day-to-day way to listen to music. Those days are gone, and they’re not coming back. And that’s okay.

What do you think? Is vinyl ever going to make a real comeback? Do you prefer vinyl over CDs or MP3s?
